Butterfly in the sun – why you should take a break from “the rules” sometime

The first time I held a camera up to my face and attempted to shoot a picture of older family members I was immediatelly admonished “Stop!  Don’t shoot into the sun!” and then I was carefully turned around so that the sun was now shining into my subjects’ faces (causing all sorts of squinting and harsh shadows I’m sure… but I digress)

I remember the event as if it were yesterday.  It was one of a thousands of little moments we go through in life where a “rule” is tacked on to our body of knowledge.  We tack it on and move on without giving it too much thought.

Butterfly

Who knows how many other butterflies in the evening sun I’ve missed in my shooting career just because I chose to follow that one silly silly “rule”:-)

The adorable little Butterfly was shot at Veterans Park in Hollywood Florida

Third Pregnancy and looking THIS good? Baby Bump session in Hollywood Florida

When someone asks me to do a portrait session for them, I tend to assume that everything they tell me about themselves is true.  Unfortunatelly this particular pregnant mom challenges my ability to believe her.

Lisette Pregnant

Can you really have two little wild ones running around the house all day, a third one on the way, and still look THIS GOOD?!

Lisette Pregnant on the Hammock

Usually I like to take most pregnant portraits (with the exception of the less-clothed ones of course) outdoors … in this case I couldn’t pass up the fantastic contrast of Lisette’s white dress against the chocolate couch.

Finally here is the supposed proof that she has at least another child:

10 Hour wedding at the Yankee Clipper in Fort Lauderdale

First things first:  Ahyde and Denis’ wedding was a blast.  We’re dead but still have big smiles on our faces.  The Yankee Clipper has an awesome beach and that’s where they were married, just a few yards from the water.  A perfect Destination Wedding.. well of course except they actually live here:)

That being said, you just have to love it when initial discussions call for “4-5 Hours of coverage” … and in the end it’s 10 hours like we guessed it would be:-)

Couldn’t resist the temptation to develop at least ONE image before going to sleep.

Ahyde and Denis – Engagement Session in Hollywood, Florida

We shot Ahyde and Denis’ Engagement session at TY Park in Hollywood Florida.  Their Wedding is in two days at the Yankee Clipper in Fort Lauderdale.  We had a fantastic time shooting this session as we made it a family affair, including Ahyde’s daughter as an assistant.

This one down here is one of our favorite shots from the day…

Major Site redesign … and an engagement shoot at Ty Park in Hollywood Florida

No more main page and separate off-site blog.

You can’t tell by looking but we’ve actually changed servers. We’re now running on a much simpler server solution and spending more of our hard-earned money on glass and lighting equipment than on supposed services we never used.

Admittedly this hybrid variation is no longer a blog either. Our posts will look like a blog but unlike a blog we don’t expect you’ll be subscribing to our feed, or feeling like you have to comment on an entry just because there’s that “comment” box staring back at you. That’s right. There is no comment box.

We feel this new design will serve our customers and friends better and will allow us to have more control over the maintenance of our site, and frankly spend less time on the site and more behind the camera.

Oh, yes… we also shot an engagement session today. Denis and Ahyde. Their daughter also came along and was a big help with reflectors etc. It was fun. Can’t wait to see the results and for the wedding coming up!

and yes… as soon as we have some spare time I DO plan on adding the content that dates prior to today. Maybe not all of it, but some of the more interesting stuff for sure.

Let us know what you think about the new design. Go to the contact section and drop us a note!

Ale and Lisy.

Guenot Maternity Session

Thank you Derrick and Heather for a wonderful maternity session.  We had a great time shooting both at their home and then on Hollywood beach.  We are so excited for you and can’t wait to welcome your little one into the world!
